David Kell's Substack
After years of getting it wrong, I'm learning the art of getting more done with less work and writing along the way.
👋 Welcome to my newsletter. Here’s my story…
A few years ago I quit my PhD to be the co-founder on Gyana. On the way, I think it’s fair to say that we did everything wrong… stress, burn out, bugs, overspending, bad hiring, broken relationships. It made me who I am, but it was a painful experience.
Everyone says building a startup is hard, but increasingly I wonder if we deliberately make it hard for ourselves?
I became an entrepreneur for the challenge, and I easily get obsessed with my work. But I recently became a dad (which is wonderful!), and it prompted me to think about effectiveness.
I started from first principles, stopped drinking the startup Kool-Aid, and discovered a new community of thinkers. Many of the insights surprised me, like:
Sometimes the better technology choices are 10+ years old
1 hour of thinking can save you 10 hours of work
Working fewer hours makes you more productive
I’m learning every day as the Gyana CEO, and sharing whatever makes sense to me.
